Conceptions of Portuguese Prospective Teachers about Real-Life Evolution Situations

The importance of introducing evolution in primary schools has been highlighted education research, but few studies have approached the understanding prospective teachers who are being prepared to teach at school level. present exploratory study aims answer three research questions about ability Portuguese apply two real-life situations: 1) Are able identify misconceptions online newspaper articles? 2) What expressed by when explaining situations? and 3) Which key concepts do make sense Twelve participated study. In first situation, were asked statements from a article that would reveal justify their choices. second they read text SARS-CoV-2 explain why scientists worried uncontrolled outbreaks virus. teachers’ answers analysed through content analysis. Regarding question, our results show only half teleological article. Concerning some either identified information which there was no misconception, or revealed own explanations. third although more than least concepts, them found it difficult how is related situation described. Although this an study, shows mobilised identifies misunderstandings, thus highlighting dimensions should be addressed education.
